Janice Boron, R.N., Nurse Manager
Janice has been an RN at UCLA Medical Center for over 25 years. Her nursing experience includes acute care, emergency medicine, and the intensive care unit. She came to Radiation Oncology five years ago, after having over 13 years as nurse manager of the Emergency Department. When an opportunity came up to join our department and the Revlon Breast Center/Surgical Oncology, Janice decided to make a change in her career. Working in our integrated clinics allows her to get to know patients from beginning of diagnosis through surgery and/or radiation. Janice brings experience, compassion, and empathy to the department. Our patients have come to respect her and appreciate her skills. Nursing is a very important part of patient care, especially side-effect management. As the Radiation Oncology practice grows, her plan for the future is to develop the department's ability to meet the needs of the community. In Janice's spare time, she enjoys the outdoors, including cycling, hiking, and golf. Also, animal rescue is a special passion for her.
Diane Howard, R.N.
Diane is originally from Canada and earned her RN at St. Michael's School of Nursing in Toronto. Her experience as a nurse has taken her into many different areas of health care such as General Medicine, Orthopedics, Home Health Care, and ICU/CCU. Here at UCLA, Diane spent 25 years in the Emergency Department as a charge nurse and then went into Management. Two years ago, Diane decided she wanted a position that would give her more time with the patients on a more personal level. Thus, having joined the Radiation Oncology Department, she has been able to bring her expert nursing skills into patient care and fulfill her goal of additional time with patients. On a personal note, Diane enjoys gourmet food, good wine, and travel. She also spends part of her leisure time boating in and around Marina del Rey or working on her golf game.
Roxana Vargas, Care Partner
Roxana came to the United States from El Salvador when she was six years old. Like her mother, also a Registered Nurse, she has been drawn into nursing and is now enrolled in classes to become an R.N. herself. An important skill that Roxana contributes to the department is her fluency in Spanish, which allows her to communicate effectively with our many non-English speaking patients. She enjoys interacting with the patients, as it helps to fulfill her nurturing spirit. Her cheerful smile and pleasant manner are a great addition to the clinic as well. Roxana is a proud mother of five children. Spending time with her children is the most important thing in her life. She also enjoys cooking, and despite her busy schedule, always tries to find time to go to the gym.
